Guided Kayak day trips are great for those who are starting out in kayaking and interested in learning some technical skills, as well as information about local history and wildlife. We often hear how people are amazed that such beautiful wilderness is only 1 hour from Toronto. All of our guides are first aid certified and highly trained in both river safety and knowledge of the Grand River. Your trip can include information about wildlife, history or just the technical aspects of kayaking. In short, we are happy to customize your trip for you.

How does a guided kayak trip work?
When you join us for a guided kayaking trip you expect an informative and entertaining experience. It has always been our goal to make sure you have enjoyed your trip on the river as much as we do. Here are the general steps you can expect when we take you on an adventure on the Grand River.
Arrive at the parking area – Once you arrive a the parking area you will be met by your guide.
Shuttled upstream – Your guide will then drive your group upstream the Grand River to where your kayak route begins.
Prepare for the trip – Each person in your group will be sized and fitted for a PFD (life jacket), and a kayak paddle. A complete safety kit is supplied and of the item of the kit will be explained to you. To keep your belongings dry during your trip you will be given a dry bag to use.
Safety, equipment and route orientation – Before the trip starts, your guide will teach you some basic paddle strokes and techniques for kayaking. Once you are confident in your abilities, we’ll get under way. Along the way, your guide will offer suggestions to improve your skill level.
The Adventure Begins!
Takeout – After you’ve completed your route you will arrive at the takeout point where your vehicle is parked. At this time the Treks In The Wild guide will help you take the kayaks out of the water.

We only use quality equipment and we monitor the river and weather conditions daily to ensure our customers have a safe enjoyable experience. We won’t let any of our canoe and kayak trips go out on the river if we feel conditions are unsafe. In short we won’t put profit ahead of customer safety.
Please Note* Paddling times for the Grand River listed above are approximate, and can vary considerably due to fluctuations in water levels, weather conditions and paddling ability. When planning a route on the Grand River, please allow yourself extra time during periods of low water, inclement weather, windy conditions and for portages.
