Introduction to Kayaking – Southern Ontario
This is introductory kayak lesson takes place in Paris, Ontario, only an hour from Toronto. The lesson focuses on water safety and basic concepts that will allow you gain confidence and efficiency on the water. Starting with 30 minutes of on land instruction we will cover important aspects such as basic paddle strokes and braces, equipment, and river safety that will allow you to enjoy paddling even more.

What’s included with a intro to kayaking lesson?

Karli – Kayak Instructor
After reviewing the strokes on water, we will start down the river for a 2 1/2 hour tour of the Grand River, giving you instructions along the way to improve your skill level. Along your route you’ll get to see some of the wildlife that call the Grand River home, and learn about some of the history of the area.
This amazing half day adventure will give you a glimpse of what the Grand River has to offer and get you on your way to enjoying this incredible activity comfortably with your new skills. Also included:
- A highly trained and qualified instructor
- PFD’s (life jackets)
- Kayak paddle
- Safety kit
- Dry bag
- Map
How does a introduction lesson to kayaking work?
When you join us for a guided kayaking trip you expect an informative and entertaining experience. It has always been our goal to make sure you have enjoyed your trip on the river as much as we do. Here are the general steps you can expect when we take you on an adventure on the Grand River.
Arrive at the Treks In The Wild – 51 William St. Paris, Ontario.
Shuttled upstream – Your guide will then drive your group upstream the Grand River to where your kayak lesson begins.
Introduction to Kayaking – On land instruction covering basic paddle strokes and braces, equipment, and river safety. A complete safety kit is supplied and of the item of the kit will be explained to you. To keep your belongings dry during your trip you will be given a dry bag to use.
The lesson continues on the river – during the 2.5 to 3 hour paddle your instructor will continue guiding you in your kayak lesson and teach you how to navigate the river.
Takeout – After you’ve completed your route you will arrive at the takeout point where your vehicle is parked. At this time the Treks In The Wild guide will help you take the kayaks out of the water.
